“Jesus, Our True Friend” and Evangelism at Home

Recently, I received “Jesus, Our True Friend” by Sally Lloyd-Jones and Jago from Zonderkidz, and it reminded me of child-like faith. As a child, I loved learning about Jesus, standing up in front of my stuffed animals to preach the good news of Jesus, and striking up conversations about Jesus with others, including adults! My parents ensured that I learned about Jesus from a young age and guided me in how to know Him personally and how to develop a relationship with Him. I believe this is a significant reason why I enjoy reviewing children’s Bible resources.

Currently, I am not a parent. However, because I came to know Jesus early in life, and it changed my life, I firmly believe in Proverbs 22:6.

It says,

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Evangelism starts in the home, and that’s precisely why resources like “Jesus, Our True Friend” should be written and shared. It essentially aids the process of a parent evangelizing to their child. It’s the perfect favorite storybook that children want to return to and beg their parents to read at bedtime. That’s a reason to praise God indeed!

And with that said, let me tell you all the wonderful details about “Jesus, Our True Friend.”

What is “Jesus, Our True Friend”?

Jesus, Our True Friend Illustrations

“Jesus, Our True Friend” holds a beautifully illustrated (by Jago) collection of seven stories from Jesus’ life and ministry on earth. The stories teach us about the depth of God’s love for us and present the gospel message in a biblically accurate yet easy-to-understand way for your child.

Children can listen to or read powerful lyrical prose that captures theological truth in a way that they can enjoy and understand.

The stories included in “Jesus, Our True Friend” are:

  • The wedding at Cana, from John 2
  • The story of the Good Samaritan, from Luke 10
  • The story of Mary and Martha from Luke 10
  • The woman caught sinning, from John 8
  • The storm on the Sea of Galilee, from Matthew 14, Mark 6, and John 6
  • The story of the Lost Son, from Luke 15
  • The miraculous catch of fish, from Matthew 26, Mark 14, and John 21

“Jesus, Our True Friend” is written by New York Times bestselling author Sally Lloyd-Jones; this book is essential for fans of The Jesus Storybook Bible, created by Sally and Jago.

If you know anyone, whether a child or an adult, who wants to know more about who Jesus is, how He lived, and what He taught, these stories from the Bible are perfect.

My Personal Review of “Jesus, Our True Friend”

Jesus, Our True Friend Book Binding

My personal review of “Jesus, Our True Friend” is that this collection of Bible stories had me locked in at the illustrations alone!

Upon opening the book, I was surprised but thankful to see a special note for children and their grown-ups. The note sets the tone for the importance of these Good News stories in the book. I appreciate the clear and large-print table of contents that helps readers easily flip to specific stories throughout the storybook.

Something I found that is perfect for young readers is the paraphrase of John 1 before the first story is introduced. I find this so special because it presents the first and true representation of LOVE, which is Jesus, God’s own Son. Children and adults alike need to know what love looks like and how it acts. I thoroughly enjoy this part of the book.

Next, the unique yet fitting story titles are fun, and I’m thankful that with each story, the corresponding Bible passage is indicated. This makes it easy for children to look up in their “The Jesus Storybook Bible.”

Lastly, “Jesus, Our True Friend” is definitely written in prose. It feels like a warm story, and it’s written in everyday language. I adore that the stories conclude by pointing back to the cross and how Jesus may have felt in these stories or what He was conveying in a parable, all the way back to the love of Jesus and the friend we have in Jesus. It’s the perfect way to show any child that Jesus is not only our Savior but the one who first loved us and is our true friend. God is personal, and he desires a relationship with us. This storybook is a great resource for introducing or reacquainting any child with Jesus. “Jesus, Our True Friend” is a lovely bookshelf storybook selection for children ages six and up, as well as their families, churches, and educators. It’s a wonderful gift for  Christmas, Easter, baptism celebrations, baby showers, and any other gift-giving occasion.

Introducing Slugs & Bugs Kid’s Sunday Songs

Slugs and Bugs

Yes, yes, yes!!! Recently, I received a CD of Kid’s Sunday Songs from Slugs & Bugs, created by Randall Goodgame, and it instantly filled my heart with joy. From the moment I opened the CD pack, I couldn’t help but admire the beautiful, colorful artwork. The entire presentation felt fun and bright, exactly what I’d want to hand to any child.

As a child, I remember those fun days of Elementary School Choir, Children’s Church, and Vacation Bible School, singing along with friends to songs that taught us about God. Those tunes weren’t just music; they were memories being made. They filled recreation rooms and fellowship halls with laughter and helped shape my faith in a profoundly meaningful way. Hearing them again on this album took me right back to those moments.

The Slugs & Bugs brand has always been intentional about creating fun, faith-filled experiences for children, and this new project continues that tradition in a beautiful way. They’re currently releasing new songs on streaming platforms a little at a time, building anticipation for the full album. However, I had the opportunity to listen to the entire CD, and I’m excited to share my thoughts with you!

Slugs & Bugs: Songs That Made My Heart Smile

Some of my favorite classics included:
🎵 Father Abraham
🎵 This Little Light of Mine
🎵 I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy
🎵 He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands

Each song carries its own unique sound. Father Abraham has a joyful gospel rhythm that made me smile. Jesus Loves Me features a fun rock ’n’ roll vibe that gives the classic a fresh feel, and the final song on the album, “Remember Jesus,” closes the album in a beautiful, worshipful way. It’s perfect for drawing children into moments of praise and reflection.

Slugs & Bugs’ Engaging and Imaginative Details

One thing I especially loved is that there are three tracks with narration that introduce songs and characters. These little moments are creative and engaging, making listening feel like an adventure and inviting children to imagine the story behind each song.

And for parents and grandparents who want to make this a sing-along experience, the CD includes a full lyric booklet inside the case. It’s such a thoughtful touch that encourages participation and learning.

Final Thoughts About Slugs & Bugs

Listening to Kid’s Sunday Songs reminded me of the pure joy and simplicity of childhood faith. Those early days when songs about Jesus helped us understand who He is. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, Sunday school teacher, or just someone who loves sharing music that honors God, this album is a must-have.

Until the full album officially releases, you can listen to a few of the new tracks right now on streaming platforms. Just visit the Slugs & Bugs site to explore more of the Slugs & Bugs collection and rediscover the joy of worship through a child’s heart.

It’s a pleasure to bring you yet another resource review. Continue to fill the children in your life with the joy of the Lord!

Find Peace and Powerful Hope in Uncertain Times — The Promise of Heaven Book Review

The Promise of Heaven book review

I received Dr. David Jeremiah’s newest release, ‘The Promise of Heaven’ in the mail from W Publishing (a part of HarperCollins Christian Publishing) in exchange for my honest review of the book. If you order a copy via my sponsored link, I greatly appreciate your support.

In the midst of life’s stressors, such as worldly violence, corruption, and calamity, have you remained in peace? I’m hopeful that your answer is yes, but if we’re being honest here, for many of us, the answer would be no. We’re in a time where people feel lost and are desperately searching for hope in the mess that we find our world in today. Many people, even brothers and sisters in Christ, are stricken with anxiety, panic, and depression. If you can resonate, I have something very special to share with you — The Promise of Heaven’ book review!

Recently, I started reading Dr. David Jeremiah’s newest release, ‘The Promise of Heaven.’The Promise of Heaven’ is a book for our current times. If you can’t find a space of peace, Heaven, where every believer will spend eternity with God, is the perfect place to fix your gaze. In no way can we control the steady decline of our world. Indeed, our best practice is to resist worry and to place our faith and complete trust in Christ. Christ, who promised in John 14:3,

“that if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (NIV).

Thankfully, the place being prepared is our Heavenly Home, our Forever Home for those who believe. And in Dr. Jeremiah’s newest release, he has compiled 31 reasons to get excited about our eternal home.

If you’re like me, you’ve always wanted to know more about Heaven. What can believers truly look forward to in this place, and what will it be like there? How will we truly be fulfilled? These are all everyday curiosities, and Scripture holds the key. Dr. Jeremiah draws on his decades of faithful ministry to answer questions that are both personal and rarely discussed.

Some common questions answered in ‘The Promise of Heaven’ :

  • Will we remember our lives or each other?
  • What happens to children who die?
  • Will there be marriage in heaven?
  • What if someone was cremated?
  • Is there hope for those who died by suicide?

Now, I’d love to give you my personal thoughts on this gem of a book since I started it! I greatly appreciate Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to upholding the context of Scripture throughout the book. He utilizes Scripture to answer specific questions about heaven directly and to inform educated guesses for other questions.

For example, I found great comfort in how he answered the question of whether animals or our pets will be in heaven. The Bible does not directly address this question, but the scriptures can lead us to an educated guess. And ultimately, we will see when we get there. Whatever the outcome of this question, I love how Dr. Jeremiah encourages that,

“There will be a higher, holier, and happier order to the way life happens…God has some wonderful surprises for us in heaven” (Jeremiah, 233).

Next, I plan to explore other notable areas of ‘The Promise of Heaven,’ including the subject matter of being heavenly-minded and motivated by heaven. I was also delighted to see the Index, which allowed me to quickly look up topics in the book, as well as the handy scripture index. Additionally, a comprehensive Notes section details the sources Dr. Jeremiah used in the book.

Overall, ’The Promise of Heaven’ is a smooth and enjoyable read, filled with wisdom and reasons to stay excited about heaven and be intentional about finding peace with our future as believers.

And as a bonus, if you need a word that’s packed with encouragement during this season of tough times, here are 10 reasons ‘The Promise of Heaven’ is a must-read:

    • Answers your biggest questions about Heaven—from “What will it be like?” to “Will I see my loved ones again?”
    • Shows how Heaven changes your life today, not just in eternity.
    • Reveals biblical truth in an accessible, engaging way you can easily understand.
    • Debunks common misconceptions about Heaven and eternity.
    • Brings hope and comfort for those grieving or facing uncertainty.
    • Explains how Heaven is already breaking into our world—and how you can live in that reality now.
    • Packed with 31 short, practical chapters that fit into daily life.
    • Written by trusted Bible teacher Dr. David Jeremiah, known for clear, compelling teaching.
    • Encourages a Kingdom mindset so you can live with purpose, peace, and anticipation.
    • Inspires confidence in God’s promises and the ultimate victory over darkness.

The Message Women’s Devotional Bible — My New Favorite Bible for This Season

My New Favorite Bible for This Season

Recently, I’ve been reading the Bible chronologically, and it has been an informative experience. But I knew I wanted one of the Bibles I use during this process to be a Bible that would not only make the Word come alive in a fresh way, but also help me slow down and reflect as I read.

When The Message Women’s Devotional Bible came into my hands from NavPress, published in alliance with Tyndale House Publishers, I felt it was perfect for this journey.

Why I’m Loving It

I’ve always appreciated The Message translation for the way it captures Scripture in a clear, everyday way. It’s easy to read but still deeply meaningful, making me pause and think about how the passage reveals the character of God and His story.

But what makes this edition so special is that it’s written by women, for women, and that focus comes through this entire Bible. The devotionals speak directly to the heart, the stories of women in Scripture are highlighted beautifully, and there’s an intentional care for the unique challenges and joys we experience as women of faith.

Also, I can’t forget to mention something I love most: the cover. It’s a warm terracotta with a soft, leather-like feel that makes it both beautiful and polished. It’s the kind of Bible you want to pick up, hold, and open regularly.

Inside you’ll find:

  • 320 topical devotions written by women from all walks of life

  • Thoughtful introductions to each section of the Bible that highlight women’s needs and perspectives

  • Profiles of important figures in Scripture

  • Space and sensitivity for women to engage with difficult Bible passages

  • A beautiful terracotta, leather-look cover that makes this Bible feel timeless and special

How This Bible Helps With  Bible Reading

Reading the Bible chronologically means I’m covering a lot of ground, and sometimes I can be tempted to just “get through” the day’s reading. But having these devotionals and profiles woven right into the text helps to slow down, reflect, and see Scripture through a lens that’s both personal and relatable.

There’s something exciting about seeing the stories of women (named and unnamed) woven into God’s big story. It’s a reminder that He sees us, values us, and calls us into His work just as much today as He did then.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a Bible that will encourage your heart, speak into your everyday life, and give you fresh insight as you read, I can’t recommend The Message Women’s Devotional Bible enough. The combination of The Message’s approachable translation, the devotionals written for women, the profiles of important figures in Scripture, and the beautiful terracotta leather-look cover makes it a joy to read and a treasure to keep.

As I continue reading through Scripture for the remainder of this year and into the next, I know this Bible will be by my side, reminding me that God’s Word is alive, personal, and meant for me and for you.

The message of the Scriptures is incomplete without women. Don’t miss their powerful stories.

Book Review: The Story of God and Us — Seeing the Bible as One SEAMLESS Story

Book Review: The Story of God and Us — Seeing the Bible as One SEAMLESS Story

Recently, I had the opportunity to receive “The Story of God and Us” by Dr. Jonathan Murphy from @WPublishing, and I must say that this one is a gem. I’m intentionally taking my time with it because it’s not just a book you rush through. It’s a journey through the Bible, “God’s story,” and it beautifully shows the many ways we are included in that story.

From the very first page, you can feel that this book was written with thought, care, and a heart for pointing readers back to Scripture. Dr. Murphy takes you from the beginning of God’s story, through Moses, to Jesus, and then to the end, weaving together the seamless narrative of God’s redemptive plan.

What I’m Loving So Far

There are several details that make this book stand out to me:

The cover design — It features images that represent the timeline of God’s story, a visual that captures the scope of the Bible at a glance.
Thoughtful reflection questions — At the end of the introduction and each chapter, there are questions that encourage you to pause, process, and apply what you’ve read.
Practical journaling space — The blank pages in the back are perfect for jotting down answers to those questions or personal reflections as you read.
The storytelling style — Dr. Murphy writes with clarity and ease, making the big story of the Bible approachable without losing its depth.
A Scripture-centered focus — This isn’t a book based on man-made opinions or self-help theories. It’s grounded in the Word of God, keeping the focus where it should be, on Him.

Why This Book Matters

In a world where numerous voices compete for our attention, I’m grateful for resources like The Story of God and Us. It helps me step away from noise and root myself again in the one true story that matters — God’s. It’s a reminder that His story is not just ancient history; it’s alive, active, and we are a part of it.

If you’re looking for a book to strengthen your understanding of Scripture, help you see the Bible as one continuous story, and inspire you to live in light of it,  this is one I’d recommend adding to your library.

Grab your copy here!

Thank you again to @WPublishing for this beautiful gift. I’m excited to keep reading and see how the rest of this journey unfolds.
