The Nature of Change

Lessons of Determination, Resilience and Hope from the Outside World

Book reviewer, Priscilla holding Uncomplicate It

About the book

If your child struggles with change in different areas of their life, The Nature of Change offers lessons of determination, resilience, and hope from the outside world.

Written by CNN national correspondent René Marsh and illustrated by Pumudi Gardiyawasam, this poetic and heartfelt children’s book teaches young hearts how to work through difficult life changes and hold on to hope. René Marsh penned this children’s book after losing her first child, Blake, to brain cancer. She had found solace in the natural world around her and came to know that the darkest moments we find ourselves in can eventually bloom into beautiful things.

This resource is perfect for kids ages 4 to 8 who are navigating tough situations such as loss, divorce, moving, and other major life changes.

About the book:

Kit and Amal wake up in a new house where everything feels different. But as they explore the woods nearby, nature becomes their teacher in the quietest, most profound way. A tree still growing through brokenness. A spider starts over without hesitation. Flowers holding on to hope even when they can’t see the sun.

A special note from author, René Marsh reads:

“The Nature of Change was born from the deepest sorrow a mother can know, the loss of my two year old son, Blake, to pediatric brain cancer. Blake loved the outdoors and after he passed, that’s where I found myself, sitting quietly in our backyard, surrounded by nature , and trying to make sense of a world that no longer made sense. In those still moments nature spoke to me not in words, but in gentle, profound lessons.  I watched a broken tree limb hanging on by a shred of bark after a massive snowstorm still manage to sprout leaves that spring, whispering that even in our brokenness, growth is possible.  These lessons became the root of inspiration for The Nature of Change.  Nature’s quiet lessons of resilience, determination and hope brought healing to my heart, and I wrote this book to pass that wisdom to my daughter and to anyone who has ever needed a reminder that change can be hard, but it can also be hopeful and beautiful too.”

– Rene Marsh

So as you can see, at its core, The Nature of Change offers encouragement and wisdom in the face of a challenge, big or small.

Let me share my personal thoughts with you!

My Personal Thoughts & Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What I love most about The Nature of Change is how it teaches children to look at the world around them and find lessons there. Determination, resilience, hope. All the things that carry us through hard changes and work us toward growth, and often something beautiful. Romans 8:28 came to mind after reading this treasure.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose
– Romans 8:28 NIV

The illustrations by Pumudi Gardiyawasam are stunning. Warm, rich, and full of life. Every spread is something you want to linger over.

This book is for the little ones facing big changes, and honestly, for the rest of us, too.

The Nature of Change by René Marsh, published by Zonderkidz, has become an immediate favorite children’s book for me.

Boy, am I excited! I’ve started my four-week journey through John Bevere’s new book, The King Is Coming, and I am so thrilled!

The King Is Coming is a timely and compelling read for every believer who senses that history is moving toward something significant. Rather than focusing on prophetic speculation, Bevere zeroes in on the most important question of our generation — how should we live in light of Christ’s imminent return? Through Scripture and a gentle but honest challenge to complacency, this book helps readers deepen their relationship with Jesus, embrace an eternal perspective, and stand ready as the spotless bride of Christ. Whether you are new to studying prophecy or have been exploring these truths for years, The King Is Coming will leave you with clarity, holy expectation, and a renewed urgency to share the hope of the gospel.

I have to admit, I’m eager for this journey for a few reasons. I want a better understanding and a deeper dive into the prophetic scriptures of Jesus’ second coming. I want to study for myself with companion materials from trusted Bible teachers and theologians. And most importantly, I want to be ready and fully prepared for the return of Jesus.

I’m anticipating what the Holy Spirit will do as He continues to transform me, ignite in me a greater passion in my faith walk for Jesus, and deepen my love for God and people.

And lastly, I’m hopeful to see how this wisdom will impact me for ministry.

Recently, I was introduced to the Beginner’s Bible Brand, and today I’m excited to share my thoughts with you!

As a child, I always loved activity books like Highlights, and honestly, I still do. There is something about an interactive, engaging book that just draws you in, no matter your age. But one thing I always felt was missing from those kinds of books was exposure to the Word of God. The Beginner’s Bible Amazing Miracles of the Bible Sticker & Activity Book fills that gap beautifully, and I am so glad it exists.

Including an activity book in a child’s Easter basket is always a fun touch, and this one is ideal for anyone who wants to keep Easter centered on our Lord and Savior.

Up next, there is something so special about introducing little ones to the Word of God in a way they can truly understand, and The Beginner’s Bible does that. What stood out to me most about The Beginner’s Bible is how thoughtfully it is created for young readers. The text is simple and easy to follow, and the illustrations are bright, engaging, and full of life. It’s the kind of Bible that makes a child want to stop and look at every single page.

It includes over 90 classic Bible stories from both the Old and New Testaments, making it both comprehensive and approachable. That balance is not easy to strike, but this book does it well. Scripture is presented in a way that feels gentle and inviting, while still staying rooted in truth. That matters.

Lastly, your little one may enjoy The Beginner’s Bible Brand, The Very First Easter storybook. It’s a story taken from the bigger book of 90 stories. It’s a perfect grab-and-go book when pulling out the Bible isn’t available, perfect for a travel bag on a car ride.

Whether you are a parent, an auntie, a mentor, or simply someone who loves gifting faith-filled books, this is a really sweet collection to add to a child’s library. It is easy for children to engage with and meaningful for the adults reading alongside them, too. This is one of those resources I would confidently recommend for building an early foundation of faith, and one I will be returning to again and again when I need a go-to gift for the little ones in my life.

As a lifelong Berenstain Bears fan, receiving these timeless books in the mail was such a pleasure. In today’s post, I have three book suggestions, perfect for Easter baskets or gift giving all year long. These nostalgic treasures are beautifully illustrated bringing fun to reading and life to each word from cover to cover.

Faith-filled gift number one is The Berenstain Bears and the Easter Story. This story holds a special message for children during this season. Helping them to remember Easter is not about candy and egg hunts, but most importantly, about Jesus. This story is the perfect read as the end of the Lenten season is often bombarded with the Easter bunny.

Next up, The Berenstain Bears and the Very First Easter. It’s the perfect, straightforward, and beautifully illustrated retelling of our Savior’s final days on Earth and His glorious resurrection told by the Berenstain Bear Family themselves. Reading this book with a little one opens the door to deeper discussion around the significance of Easter.

Finally, The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible Search and Find. This board book brings fun, interaction, and intrigue to Bible time for little ones.

Whether you are building out an Easter basket or looking for books to read together throughout the season, these three treasures. Faith, family, and a little nostalgia!

Immerse your young believer in the word of God!

Resources by zonderkidz

This Lenten season has been such a gift —

getting to share resources that I truly believe will leave a mark on the hearts of children we love.

As a book influencer, this is one of my favorite things to do. And honestly? It’s personal for me.

I grew up immersed in Jesus. Sunday school, Bible studies, Christian schooling — faith was poured into me from every direction. I wasn’t perfect. I’ve had seasons of stubbornness, sinful patterns the Holy Spirit had to break, and real battles with my faith in my 20s. But I never forgot what was planted in me. The Word, prophetic words, and prayers lifted on my behalf always brought me back to our Savior’s arms. As I’ve matured, I’ve surrendered, and I live a life of repentance and pursuit of God.

That journey is exactly why I’m passionate about getting faith resources into the hands of little ones early.

Here’s what I’m sharing today:

📖 Jesus, Our True Friend — seven stories from Jesus’ life by Sally Lloyd-Jones & Jago, filled with the good news and the deep, rescuing love of Immanuel.

🎨 Hey-O! Coloring Book — 90+ pages of Bible story coloring fun with tear-out pages for easy display. Creative, faith-building, and kids love it.

The Glorious Image of God — a beautiful way to help children understand they carry God’s image, building spiritual identity and God-given self-worth.

🤍 Deep Breath, Little Whisper — a sweet introduction to breath prayers, reminding kids that every praise, thank-you, and whispered request matters to their Heavenly Father.

My final thoughts

After having some time with these resources, these are my takeaways and why I recommend each of them!

Jesus, Our True FriendI love this book for its storybook-style narrative, which makes it simple for little hearts to follow along and learn about their Lord and Savior!

Hey-O! Coloring BookI appreciate the uniqueness of this coloring book. Each page is related to a Bible story and features a significant quote. This is a must-have for times when you want to read scripture to a child while keeping them engaged in the story. As they color the picture, the story comes to life before their eyes. It’s a must-have coloring book for teachable moments.

The Glorious Image of GodBeautiful illustrations and poetic storytelling make this children’s book stand out in any collection. It carries foundational teachings about the image of God and our worth.

Deep Breath, Little WhisperI give this book 5 stars for how it simplifies prayer for children by presenting everyday scenarios and quiet breath prayers that glorify God in response!
